    About retroVent

    Why is RetroVent so different?

The unique design of the cell results in a longer dwell time as the air cyclones around the barrel, just like a corkscrew. This means that the air has more contact through the cell and is able to build up a greater heat exchange.

The tubes within the cell have been twisted through 8° to improve the thermal efficiency.

The tubes within the heat exchanger have also been intelligently engineered in the shape of a petal. This provides a larger surface area and minimises resistance around the tubes, similar to that of a honeycomb.

    Why is RetroVent so different?

    Back to the future

Within the RetroVent, EnviroVent have applied a technology found in early 20th century steam locomotives. In its original form, heat passed through ‘fire tubes’, transferring through the tube wall into the water. By heating the water to high temperatures, steam was generated.

Instead of water and steam, RetroVent utilises this same principle for air. It extracts waste heat from the property, which is transferred through the tube wall to heat the incoming fresh air. At best a locomotive would be 30% efficient, however with modern materials and improvements to this technology the RetroVent can now achieve up to 89.3% efficiency!

The unique design of the cell allows for a longer dwell time as the air cyclones around the barrel, just like a corkscrew. The tubes within the heat exchanger have also been intelligently engineered in the shape of a petal. This provides a larger surface area and minimises resistance around the tubes. This results in more contact with the air and ultimately more heat transfer.

The heat cells are available in Ø100mm & Ø150mm diameter. The Ø150mm version is available in the following two models:

    Highflow

For applications where the emphasis is on higher extract and supply airflow performance, the cell has been designed to incorporate larger tubes to allow increased air to pass through.

    Thermal

For applications where higher thermal efficiency is required, the cell has been designed with smaller tubes at a diameter of 6.5mm, increasing the number of tubes within the cell and creating a greater surface area for heat to be recovered.

    Installation

Designed for through the wall installation, RetroVent has been designed for both refurbishment and new build properties. The outside diameter of the heat exchange casing is smaller than a standard wall sleeve and can therefore utilise an existing one already in place. This means that the direct replacement of a existing extractor fan can be quickly and easily achieved.

    retroVent Installation

RetroVent can be inverted 180° for replacement installations where the existing hole is located just below the ceiling.

RetroVent also takes into account the complexities of different wall thicknesses to offer 2 main lengths that the heat exchange casing is manufactured to. There is also the option of made to measure lengths based on a minimum order quantity.

    Summer by-pass as standard

RetroVent has the facility to by-pass the heat recovery process during the warmer months of the year. When the temperature reaches 25°C the unit will automatically switch over to extract-only mode so that no user intervention is required. As the temperature falls, the unit will automatically return to heat recovery mode.

    Exceptionally quiet

Ideal for urban environments, the RetroVent runs incredibly quietly. It incorporates two fans, one at the front of the unit and one at the rear, which operate with minimal noise. This frequency level from the fans and from any outside noise pollution is then further attenuated by the cell, resulting in reduced running noise.

    Low Watt motor technology

RetroVent is fitted with double loaded, long life, low watt DC motor technology to ensure minimum energy consumption and long trouble free life.

    Innovative revolving front grille

The front grille has been engineered to revolve through 40° to position the airflow in the desired direction. This is particularly beneficial if the unit is installed in small office environments.

    Lowest Life Cycle Costs

RetroVent comes complete with a five year warranty and has been designed with an ingenious cleaning and servicing facility. In order to maintain the efficiency and performance of the unit, the plug out/plug in heat exchange cartridge can be simply removed with the use of the service key provided. The cell can then be vacuumed to remove any build-up of particulates or dirt. The inside of the cell casing can then be easily wiped clean with a cloth before the heat exchange cartridge is slotted back into place.

The filters located just behind the front cover can also be removed easily and cleaned.

As part of the Lifetime Range®, any requirement for component replacement, all repair and maintenance can be carried out simply and quickly by exchanging the worn out components. These would then be brought back to the Harrogate factory to be recycled.

The RetroVent is designed to match the lifecycle of the dwelling and should never end up on landfill.

  • Control Options

    Standard unit order code:

    Retro - S

The standard SELV unit is fitted with intelligent vapour tracking and summer bypass as standard. The unit will operate completely autonomously, running on constant trickle and increasing the motor speed in direct correlation with any rise in relative humidity up to 30l/s. When the temperature reaches 25°C, the unit will switch to summer-bypass automatically to activate extract ventilation only. There is no requirement for user intervention.

    Retro - P

Includes all the standard features with the addition of a pull cord for trickle to boost extract ventilation.

    Cell Options

The Ø150 cell is available in two different versions, the highflow and thermal.
